Maryland Flag Football Rules!!

Another week in the books and some of the elites of started to separate themselves from the pack. LBH2 has suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of Fuzion, and the Victors are scoring points at will.

Speaking of... The Victors handled Fuzion with ease 55-21 and moved onto Jacked Up, which by that score of 35-21, seems like a tougher, but still sweet VICTORy...The Best Team put up 10 points on Rezurrection, but yielded 50...JumpOff performed similarly versus All-Money and lost 55-0...and Revolution fell to the Untouchables 39-20...Lastly, No Response lost to Mayhem in OT 36-30.

Spreads Last Week:
Fuzion vs Victors: Victors -6 Check
Best Team vs Rezurrection: Rezurrection -21 Check
Revolution vs Untouchables: Even
LBH2 vs Fuzion: LBH2 -2 Wrong
No Response vs Mayhem: Mayhem -14 Wrong
Jacked Up vs Victors: Victors -8 Check
All-Money vs Jumpoff: All-Money -12 Check

Standings have the 4 teams in the South locked in with Jumpoff and Best Team out. In the North, it is a little different.

Here Are the North Standings:
Mayhem: 4-1 (Games this wk: Jacked Up and Revolution)
Fuzion: 4-2 (Games this wk: Jacked Up)
Rezurrection: 4-2 (Games this wk: All-Money)
All-Money: 3-3 (Look up)
Revolution: 2-3 (Games this wk: Mayhem on Sat, and Jacked Up on Sun)
Jacked Up: 1-3 (Mayhem, Fuzion and Revolution)

This week will be All-Out Division play. Only the top 4 per division make it in. Money has a tiebreaker over Revolution and plays Jacked Up next week, the last week of the season. If the guys on top in the North can win, then it will be a race for 4th. This weekend looks promising, regardless of the outcomes.

The South is kind of lopsided. The Victors are kicking everyone's ass, and before LBH2 lost this weekend, they were doing the same. Speaking of...they play each other this weekend. Considering their records, this game is for 1st place in the South.

South Division Standings:
Victors: 5-1 (LBH2 this week, Jumpoff next)
LBH2: 5-1 (Victors this week, NR next)
Untouchables: 4-2 (NR this week, Best Team next)
No Response: 2-4 (Untouchables this week, LBH2 next)
Jumpoff: 0-6 (Best Team this week, Victors next)
Best Team: 0-6 (Jump Off this week, Untouchables next)

This division is locked up with Jumpoff and The Best Team battling it out this week to see who will still be win-less going into the final week. No Response is locked in at number 4 and the other 3 are playing for 1st.

Before this post gets any longer.. Here are the spreads:
8:30: Untouchables vs No Response: Untouchables -12
8:30: Mayhem vs Jacked Up: Mayhem -14
9:45: Victors vs LBH2: Victors -21 (Rematch from the Winter League Semi's LBH2 won by 1pt)
9:45: Best Team vs Jumpoff: Jumpoff -8
11:00: Jacked Up vs Fuzion: Fuzion -6
11:00: Mayhem vs Revolution: Mayhem -8
12:15: All-Money vs Rezurrection: Rezurrection -4
Sunday: Jacked Up vs Revolution: Toss Up

Guess I should stop picking... or I will gladly pick your next opponent for a fee.

What a week in MDSSC up in Hunt Valley, MD. The only game I got right was the one I didn't pick. No Response got into a great double OT battle with Jumpoff. We were down by 12 with 1:32 left in the game. Jumpoff had just scored so we had the ball on the 5. We threw a 1st down bomb to #21 who snatched it out of the air and took it to the house for 6. Conversion failed and now with 1:20 left all Jumpoff had to do was get a first and it was over. Our rusher tipped a 2nd down pass into the air and our CB picked it off. We scored...failed on the conversion and now it was a race to the first stop. In the end we held them from scoring in the 2nd OT. Now on to the stuff you guys care about..

8:30am: LBH2 vs Untouchables:
What is up with games I pick and QB's not showing up. From what I understand it was a pretty easy win for LBH2. Who, by the way, stays the only undefeated team in the league. Untouchables were without their strong armed QB and just couldn't match the firepower that LBH2 brought. (Loss #1)

11:00am: Rezurrection vs Jacked UP & Revolution vs Fuzion:
Well the QB's were here for this one. It just so happend that Jacked Up may have had a little rust and Rezurrection took advantage. I don't know what happened in the Revolution/Fuzion game (I will update when I get some more info.)....but I know that Fuzion came out on top and are now tied with Mayhem for #1 spot in the North. (Losses #2 & #3)

12:15pm: Mayhem vs All-Money:
Alright, so All-Money was up 12-0 in the first half before Mayhem was able to put some points on the board and more importantly start forcing turnovers on Money. This one was 30-12 (Mayhem) when I had to leave. The game ended as I was walking off the field with Mayhem the winners. This game took its turn for Money with a couple picks on their side of the field...by then Scott was firing them in there. I have a picture above of Mr. Dave Lippenholz taking a 5 yard pass on a 30 yard scamper.. Look at him run!

Onto the 25th...
There are a lot of important and potentially good games this weekend. I realize this thing is getting long so I will be brief.

8:30am: Victors vs Fuzion: The Victors have been on a scoring frenzy but so has Fuzion. This will be a tough contest and we will see if the veterens can hold off an up and coming Fuzion squad who is taking All-Pro by storm.

9:45am: Has 3 potentially good games... Revolution seeks to turn things around against the Untouchables. LBH2 seeks to remain undefeated against Fuzion (back to back games) and we drew Mayhem. Revolution needs a win... and I think Fuzions play vs LBH will be affected by the outcome of their first game. Those are two tough teams to play back to back. And from a personal stand point it would be awesome to stop Scott and get a huge win. It will be a tough contest.

11am: Jacked Up vs. Victors:
Jacked up will start to get their games in now. They have only played 2 and are 0-2. Victors have played 4 so far and are 3-1. This is a classic...typically physical battle. This will be a fun game to watch.

12:15pm: All-Money vs Jumpoff:
Both of these teams need a win... Jumpoff is 0-4 but playing better together and All-Money needs to sort things out to get back into playoff contention.

Spreads This Week: (I obviously suck at picks)
Fuzion vs Victors: Victors -6
Best Team vs Rezurrection: Rezurrection -21
Revolution vs Untouchables: Even
LBH2 vs Fuzion: LBH2 -2
No Response vs Mayhem: Mayhem -14
Jacked Up vs Victors: Victors -8
All-Money vs Jumpoff: All-Money -12
*spreads are based on QB's showing up!

50% isn't bad... but could have been better.

MDSSC has been a Flag Football League in Maryland for over seven years and has grown to over 30+ teams a season after starting out as 6 co-ed teams from what I can remember. My goal is to get that to 50 before the summer of 2010.

On to the good stuff.. Week 4 of MDSSC was a balancing weekend at best. The Victors found a way to beat us (NoResponse) 47-25.. After a tight first half ending 22-19, the Victors opened up on us and only gave up one TD. They then took the rest of their vengeance out on a Scott-less Mayhem (61-0)...108 points in 2 games. That is pretty impressive.

For my other picks.. Fuzion let me down and Rezurection did exactly what their name suggests and rose from two bad losses to put it to Fuzion and give them their first loss. I don't know what the score was from the Untouchables/Jumpoff game but I know that Jumpoff is 0-3 and Untouchables are 3-1. And lastly, All-Money beat Revolution to get back to .500. I heard it was a decent winning margin but that Revolution was short on players. Regardless a win is a win and in all honesty as long as you make it in the playoffs any of these teams have a shot.

On to the games of the week...By the way Mike, on one hand it is nice to get the games out of the way but 8:30 is way early man!

8:30 am: LBH2 (3-0) vs Untouchables (3-1): Great potential match-up here. LBH2 was off last week and the Untouchables got to 3-1. LBH2 has big wins against Jacked Up (only 1 game so far) and Rezurection. Untouchables knocked off the Victors and Money but lost to Fuzion. This will be a barn burner I feel. Who ever gets a stop or two will win this one.
Prediction: 35-32 (Untouchables)

9:45 am: No Response (1-3) vs Jumpoff (0-3): I don't like to pick my own games.. so I will leave my prediction out. We have a new QB who has been coming into his own. We have put up some decent points and have given up about the same. Jumpoff looks to have gone a similar route facing Revolution, LBH2, and Untouchables. That is a tough schedule and you can never sleep on Babe and his patented look off passes. This will be a good game...mostly because we both need wins to stay in the playoff hunt.

11:00 am: There are two good games in this slot: Jacked Up (0-1) vs Rezurection (2-2) & Revolution (2-1) vs Fuzion (2-1)... don't know which one to go with so I will be brief. Jacked Up is coming off a short vacation... will the weekends at the beach have an effect? Not on Khalid that is for sure.
Revolution and Fuzion are both coming off humbling losses. This is the point in the season where Fuzion decides whether those first two wins where a fluke because teams were sleeping on them or whether they're legit. Nocar is back at the helm this season for Revolution and if his team mates are on time they are a tough bunch.
Predictions: (Jacked Up: 28-22) (Revolution: 35-21)

12:15 pm: All-Money (2-2) vs Mayhem (2-1)...I don't want to pick anymore Mayhem games if they won't have a QB all the time but it was this or the (0-2) Circus Show vs the (0-1) Underdogs (Semi-pro).. Put it this way, if Scott shows up this week it will be a decent game. Likely with Money capitalizing on their momentum to squeak one out... no Scott and Mayhem will start to hope they win enough to stay in the top 4 of their divison.
Prediction: *28-24 (Money) *If Scott shows up

Some final thoughts... the North division is evening up with three 2-1 teams, two .500 teams and Jacked Up with some games to play. The South division is shaping up a little more distinctively with the only undefeated team left and a team at 3-1, 2-1, 1-3, and two 0-3 teams. In the South this week will start to determine the teams in the playoffs while in the North this weeks inter-division games will start to change some of the rankings. A great season so far. Good luck to all the teams this weekend and I will post again next week.

P.S. If you like the uniforms that the Victors, Fuzion and Revolution are wearing this season and want some more information. Drop me a line and I can answer any of your questions.

MDSSC....Heating up

On to the MDSSC Flag Football League played in Hunt Valley, Maryland on Saturdays...All-Pro Division: 3 weeks are down with a bye last week for the holiday. Hope everyone had a safe 4th. So a brief overview of the season so far...

Not everyone has played three games and even one of the stronger teams (the Victors) have only played one. Standings currently have 4 teams undefeated (Mayhem, Fuzion, Revolution and LBH2) and the Untouchables at 2-1. Everyone else is either 1-2 or 0-2 and the Victors and Jacked up have only played once and both lost. There are 12 teams in all and usually ends up being a pretty tight season for the most part. Each team will play 8 games.. Here are some of the games of the week:

8:30am: Fuzion(2-0) vs Rezurection (1-2)
Fuzion has taken All-Pro by storm beating the Untouchables and Money by decent amounts. Now that they are getting settled lets see if they can keep it up. On the other side, Rezurection started out with a high scoring 37-35 victory over NoResponse to turn around and lose 42-27 and 48-16 to LBH2 and Mayhem respectively.. Important to note that both of those teams are championship squads. I wouldn't overlook Rezurection...but they need to tighten up their D.
Prediction: 35-21 (Fuzion)

9:45am: Untouchables (2-1) vs Jumpoff (0-2)
Untouchables shocked Money (30-6) and shocked the Victors (31-27) in our last week of games.. but in between those got crushed by Fuzion 44-13. On the other side.. Jumpoff has started slow at 0-2 with a close loss to Revolution (37-32) and the other loss to LBH2 (39-27). This game might be close but with the momentum on Untouchables side...
Prediction: 28-16 (Untouchables)

11am: Victors(0-1) vs Mayhem (2-0)
Mayhem has started off with two big wins against two new teams and the Victors were beat by the Untouchables on the 27th (31-27)... Victors will look to bounce back with an early game vs (0-2) NoRespons and then this game. Mayhem only has this one. This is a tough call considering Scott is back and flinging the ball and the Victors are always in contention.
Prediction: Going to flip a coin here...Tails=Victors - Heads=Mayhem... Heads it is. I have no idea what the score will be so I will say 28-26 Mayhem...

12:15: Revolution (2-0) vs All-Money (1-2)
Revolution has had two good wins against the Jumpoff (0-2) and NoResponse (0-2)... All-Money beat the Best Team (0-2) easily but lost to the Untouchables (2-1) and Fuzion (2-0).. This is a hard one to call. Both teams have been in the league for a long time and know eachother well. The key here will be defense. All-Money has given up 75 pts and scored 75.. Lopsided loss and a lopsided win... Revolution has played 2 games to Money's 3 and has given up 45pts but scored 70. Going out on a limb here.
Prediciton: 24-21 (Money)

MDFFA Season Over - Scorpions are the Champs!

Sorry it has been a few weeks... I am new to this whole blogging thing. So on to the news.

MDFFA is now over with the Scorpions taking the cup after an undefeated season of 8-0. Being #1 going into the playoffs they had a bye. On Saturday (6/20) the Bengals beat the Victors 28-21 and the Arsenal beat the Raiders 12-6 which set up the #2 Blaze vs #3 Arsenal and the #1 Scorpions vs the #4 Bengals (with Packers Players apparently)...

Sunday (6/21) had some great defensive games showing the Blaze come out 6-0 over the Arsenal and the Scorpions beating the Bengals 19-13. Setting up the expected #1 vs #2 championship game. Yet another defensive battle ending in a 7-0 defeat of the Blaze to give the Scorpions the Spring cup. Great season for the MDFFA.

Fall season is set to start in Late September (the 20th it looks like). This was my first year in the league and I had a blast. Have a great summer!

I will be posting on this blog about other leagues in the area as well as a few tournaments if I can make them. Email me or comment if you have any questions about some of the other leagues. If you need jerseys, I have a great contact as well. Let me know.
