MDSSC - Winter Flag Football - Week 5

The season continues this week with more great match-ups as usual. I covered the results of last week on Tuesday. You can read that update here

Let's just go right down the line:

8:00am
Danger (2-2) vs Black Panthers (0-4): Danger should get back in the win column this week. Unfortunately, there are two teams that just don't have it together yet, and one of them is the Black Panthers. Give them a few more seasons and they will get it together. They have some decent athletes but just aren't organized. Danger, on the other hand, played a great game without their QB last week but in the end suffered a loss. They are a spry bunch. If they can string some wins together they could be a Jets type team to worry about in the playoffs. It will be tough though...after the Panthers they have Mayhem, All Madden and the Untouchables. This week however:
I say: Danger -12

9:15am
I don't know... Revolution has already played Pain. I found out that Revolution plays Jacked Up at 2:15. See below.

10:30am
All Madden (4-0) vs The Untouchables (4-0): I guess this could be considered one of the flag football games of the week. You have the final two undefeated teams in the Pac-8 going head-to-head for the top spot in the division. Let's just look at facts: The Untouchables have scored 128 points, All Madden: 131. The Untouchables have given up 13...All Madden: 63. Based on raw numbers, the Untouchables have given up only 3.25 points a game. That's not even POSSIBLE! The only common opponent we have is LBH2. Untouchables won 20-0. All Madden won 32-27. I am pretty jacked to play this game on Saturday and I think it will be a great one. I will leave it up to the audience to wonder what the score will be. Only one team will be undefeated on Sunday.
I say: Just watch (Sorry team, put comments if you want.)

11:45am
Mayhem (2-1) vs Pain (2-2): Mayhem got over .500 last week and Pain dropped to .500. This should be a decent game. Pain has a QB that seems to like to run more than throw, but you can't discount his arm completely. Mayhem, well they are Mayhem. They have a potent offense with Scott at the helm. Their defense isn't the same without their sniper, Tim, back at safety. This could lead to a pretty high scoring affair with the last team to have possession winning it.
I say: Mayhem -4

1:00pm
Money (3-0) vs Fuzion (2-1): This will be the beginning of the tough part of Money's schedule. They had some nice warm-up flag football games to get their feet under them. Fuzion, on the other hand, opened with a loss and have won two convincing games in a row. This game will come down to turnovers. Fuzion has a high flying offense and an up-and-down defense. I haven't seen Money play yet this season so this is a tough one for me...
I say: Fuzion -3

2:15pm
Rezurrection (0-3) vs Showtime (3-1): This is an interesting match-up. Rezurrection is winless (contrary to the website. I don't know how they got a win when they played Mayhem and lost.) Showtime's three wins are over Com'On Man, Black Panthers and a QB-less Danger. Showtime has been around the block and know how to win flag football games. If anything, Rezurrection has a decent defense and if they rattle the QB #22, they may have a chance.
I say: Showtime -1.5

Also at 2:15
Revolution (0-3) vs Jacked Up (1-1): Man-oh-man...I don't know what to say about this one. I want to say this will be a traditional match-up between these two but I don't know what Revolution team will show up. Jacked Up had a nice win last week after getting beat by 19 against Fuzion. This is the first of two football games for them on Saturday. Until Revolution proves otherwise I imagine the schneid will continue.
I say: Jacked Up -4

3:30pm
Victors (2-1) vs Jumpoff (0-3): Jumpoff will continue their losing streak this week. The Victors should have some of their main guys back from Miami and will give them a full squad. The Jumpoff, however, haven't shown any of the spark that they had a couple of seasons ago.
I say: Victors -16

Also at 3:30
Com'On Man (0-4) vs Jacked Up (1-1): Com'On Man has had their struggles in their first season in the league. Those struggles won't stop with the physical Jacked Up team next on the schedule.

I say: Jacked Up -16

I want to use a little more space for the Pro league. So I will run through a few games. There are only two undefeated teams left, the Beltway Bombers and TTB. The SEC seems like a pretty even division, as does the WAC. One thing I have to point out though...Beltway has scored 132 points (most in Pro) and given up only 28 (least in Pro). Will we see Beltway in All-Pro in the spring? After that catch and run video last week...maybe. I also think the Hit Squad has the talent to move back up to All Pro in the spring.

Let's look at some games.

Beltway (3-0) vs Movement (2-1-1): Movement is such a tricky read. They have the talent and athleticism to be in All Pro but just have never stayed consistently organized. Beltway on the other hand is everything organized. They have their plays memorized and they flock to the ball defensively. Going on that statement...
I say: Beltway -3

TTB (3-0) vs Rusty (2-1): I have to go strictly on paper here. TTB has scored/given up 94/43 - Rusty 116/80.. I don't know if Rusty's record is accurate on the site as they are missing a game on the scores. I think they could be 2-2...
I say: TTB -3 because of their win over Hit Squad.

Finally, I have one more thing. If you want, email your scores to flagfootballmd@yahoo.com Give me your team name, the team you played and the scores. If you want to provide a write up, great! This goes for all Divisions including All Pro. I will try to get as much information on here. Good luck everyone and see you out there on the fields.

MDSSC Flag Football Playoffs in Maryland... Round 1 Week 2

Guys, I am sorry for the delay.. I have been swamped all week. So a here is a brief recap of last week.

Fuzion walloped LBH2 41-14 and move on to the next round. The Untouchables were able to put a stop to Rezurrection's run and take them out 25-19. That must have been a hell of a game. Unfortunately I didn't make it to either last week so I can't write much more than this.

On to this week. Round 1 finishes up with us (No Response) taking on Mayhem in a rematch of a great game earlier in the season. The Victors will take on Jacked Up in a battle that has happened a lot in MDSSC playoffs history.

First, Mayhem beat No Response earlier in the season 36-30 in OT. The great thing...for them; they only had 6 guys to do it. As you can see Mayhem is the favorite but I think that this will be a great game. No Response has made strides towards the end of this season with a big win over the Untouchables and have the team to make it interesting. On the other hand, it is Scott and his crew of misfits that happen to always turn it up a notch in the playoffs.
Mayhem -8

The other first round game is the Victors vs Jacked Up. They also played earlier this season with the Victors coming out on top 35-21. Right now the Victors are playing next level ball. While they almost gave one away in the last week of the season to Jumpoff they seem to be unstoppable. Jacked Up has had an inconsistent season, which unfortunately, I attribute to a bunch of games lumped together (I am assuming at their request). They were able to play their way into the playoffs by slipping past Money 19-18. Unfortunately, I think this is where they stop.
Victors -12

Round 2:
This is hard to write, but due to the fact that all of the games are on Saturday, I might as well throw some predictions out there.

My Personal goal... Beat Mayhem and play Fuzion well enough to beat them.

Fuzion is an enigma to me. They had a big loss to the Victors and Rezurrection and were out scored by Mayhem in a shoot out. They beat LBH2 twice, by big margins, and easily took care of the Untouchables.

If I go on spreads alone here is what I think might happen:
Mayhem beats NR.. Victors beat Jacked Up.

Round 2: Mayhem beats Fuzion and Victors payback the Untouchables

Championship: Honestly, my thoughts are that the Victors are the team to beat this season. They have a great squad and even when Johnny is getting on the ENTIRE teams nerves they still play good as long as they don't turn the ball over and play decent defense. I think Mayhem will score on them easier than most teams. Scott makes quick decisions and is able to read defenses like kids books. The Victors play on talent. I would imagine that the Victors could hold them off and win with a score of 38-36 or something like that.

With respect to all the teams, including my teammates. I am excited about this weekend and look forward to playing. All in all, I hope that no one is injured, Skip and Vito can put up with all the arguing and that we have a great, hopefully dry, day. Good luck everyone and see you on the fields.

MDSSC Summer Flag Football Playoffs

Gentlemen, the table is set. The Bracket complete. This weekend is the start of the All-Pro Division playoffs. There were a few great games on Saturday to end the season. Mayhem slipped by Fuzion 48-40 for the #1 spot in the North. Jacked Up was able to get by All-Money 19-18 for the 4th spot in the North. (A little more on this in a minute) Lastly, the Victors almost allowed Jumpoff to end their season with a win, but got it together to win 20-18.

Okay, so in my last post I listed the tiebreakers which showed, based on this last weekend's results, All-Money making it in if it ended up being a three way tie. It appears though that the commish resulted in using strength of schedule as the determining factor instead of Bar Tab. I am sure this was a tough call for the commish as he is on All-Money and I am sure, if anyone goes to the bar consistantly, it would be members of their team. Let me just say this guys, we need to show support for Hightopps. I know that I need to chip in too. They have good food and the atmosphere is pretty cool. Considering our game times though I know it is tough. I propose that Mike get with Hightopps and maybe get us discount cards of some sort to use during the week or something. Let's be honest, Hightopps doesn't open until lunch time, and if you are playing in any game but the noon game, you are more likely to stop at Bob Evans than Hightopps. What say you commish? Just a thought.

Okay, FOOTBALL now. This weekend LBH2 squares off against Fuzion at 11am for a classic re-match. These two who got their starts in the Pro Division and have worked their way into being powers in the All-Pro with LBH2 winning it all in the winter. A lopsided victory by Fuzion (48-24) this season will add to the fire. Unfortunately, LBH2's Quarterback won't be here this weekend so they will have to rely on their back up (Duke) who has a decent arm but based on the loss earlier this season it is hard to tell who will win this one.
Spread: Fuzion -8

The other game this weekend is Untouchables vs Rezurrection at 12:15. If you would have asked me at the beginning of this season who would win this match-up; I would have said Untouchables hands down. Now, I look at these teams and Rezurrection has won 5 straight with only one of those games being a walk against the Best Team. The Untouchables on the other hand have gone 3-2 in their last 5 with 2 of those wins against the Best team and Jumpoff. I will leave it to you but here is the Spread: Rezurrection -6.

Keeping it short this week as I am already late enough with this post. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Fall Season for MDSSC starts soon.
2. A new League its
Reisterstown for those of you guys that want a little more contact. Not sure if it will be on Saturdays or Sundays but I will keep you posted. Either way, you can play in two. I do. Email me if you need help finding a team I can help you get in touch with some of the coaches.
3.
MDFFA starts 9/20. I am playing with the Baltimore Victors in this league and we are looking to capitalize on the momentum we had at th end of the season.
4. I know you guys want to look as good as Revolution, All-Madden, Fuzion, and the Victors... You need jerseys or Uniforms, I can help you out. Email or call me. Check out the
AGame website too.

New Contact 8-Man Flag Football League in Maryland!

For my current readers, please see below or click here for this weeks write up. I apologize for the multiple posts but I want to introduce this new league.

The league will be the Reisterstown Flag Football Association. I don't know what field yet but I am thinking Northwest Regional. Don't hold me to that. Here is the email from the Commish:

"I have some updates for you. The league Website has been created and we will start to update it immediately and over the next few weeks.
http://www.leaguelineup.com/rffa

There will be teams from Howard county league coming over and possibly some teams from PA and elsewhere.
We will be playing on Brand new field turf so make sure we always keep the facility clean.

On that note, all teams must have matching JERSEYS with a NUMBER on at least the back. If you need inexpensive ideas on attaining jerseys just ask….many of us have connections. (Inserting my plug here... Contact me: Will McGinnis, I am associated with AGameTeam Apparel. Great Uniforms and good prices. mcginnis32@yahoo.com or 877-898-4082x107)

The League will be sponsored by Bill Batemens, Charltey Plaza Location which will help keep the cost down for all teams.
Please patronize the establishment and let them know you are with the league. They will have Food & Drink specials for RFFA Affiliates.

Some of the rules and formats will be changing because we will be using MCFFU rules & Regulations. www.mcffu.com
Everything is up for discussion but you must attend the League meeting or you will have no say.
Team captains will vote too."

So... what does this mean? Your wives/girlfriends will be pissed that you are going to be gone even more on the weekends. Good news is that this is contact so you can take it out (cleanly) on the other team. I will be posting on this league as well as MDFFA which starts on September 20th in Essex. I play for the Baltimore Victors and we were able to make it into the top tier playoffs in our first season and were a play (tough call) away from being in the Semi's. I am excited for the season to kick off that has 5 new teams joining including the Maryland Giants who should have a good squad.

So things to remember:
Check out the RFFA
Call/email me for Uniforms/Jerseys (mcginnis32@yahoo.com & 877.898.4082x107)
MDFFA
starts in Essex on 9/20/09
