MDSSC - Men's Summer Flag Football Kicks Off!

Well the Summer Flag Football season officially kicked off this last Saturday. I was able to see a few games and hope to catch some each week. I am still out of commission so I should have time to catch some games.

Let's start with what some would say is the biggest news of the early season. The Victors, as we've known them for the last 5 years, is no more. After an amicable split, two new teams were formed. Staying true to the blue and gold are Bill, Nueve and Los...I think I may be missing a guy or two. They picked up some guys from various contact football leagues that have played with Bill in some form or fashion and look to have a pretty good squad. They played well together on Saturday disposing of the up-and-coming Scores team.(24-6) You know what was weird? They didn't have the patented yelling and arguing on the sidelines or between each other...but I digress. The other team that formed with some of the veterans of old Victors are now known as Franchise Hollywood. Leading the way for them is #21, who has a cannon for an arm and is leading a nationally ranked flag football team, the Blaze over in MDFFA in Essex. Along with him are some familiar faces: #1 Oakley, #27 Blaze, C.Grant, Lichaa and some other talent from the MDFFA Giants and Brigade. They survived their debut against the Express, who have a few pieces from the Spring Champs All Madden squad. (14-13)

On to the other two games I got to see. Roger and the Hit Men took on a hungry Hit Squad led by DJ and crew. Let's just say that it may have been a game for the first 5 minutes. Hit Squad came out aggressive and wanting this one from the first whistle. Although Brady Quinn tried to keep it a game, after a throwing a few drive ending interceptions. They never lost composure though, and forced more turnovers than they gave up and easily won 38-12.

The other game that I watched was the Spartans versus Menace. I didn't know what to expect from this game, but I didn't expect the 32-0 drumming that Menace handed to the Spartans. Menace is an interesting team and they will have their challenges this season, but good confidence building win. I have to hand it to the Spartans though. They play tough every week and never give up. Few tips though...you guys are going to have to switch it up. Simplify your game. Focus on getting first downs and the scoring will come. You guys have the talent to compete in this flag football league!

Let's round it up. Mayhem jumped out to a 28-0 lead on Fuzion before winning 36-18. Nice fight from Fuzion after being down so much at halftime. Scott is back and Mayhem has made some positive changes to their roster. Looking forward to seeing how their season goes. As for Fuzion, you can never count them out.

LBH2 is back and started their season off nice with a 30-13 win over the Coyotes. In Pro, G4B lost a close one to TTB (13-14) and Shire outscored the Bulldawgs 40-30.

Here are a few games to look for this weekend:
8:30am - LBH2 (1-0) vs Untouchables (0-0)
9:45am - Hit Squad (1-0) vs TTB (1-0)
11:00am - Scores (0-1) vs Coyotes (0-1)

Well that's it from me this week... Good luck guys

  1. Good week out there to play and referee in... Shire looked good... keep up that offensive intensity and you'll go far... Hit Squad stuck together, defense was stout... a lot of "good hands" players on O... only caught the end of the Mayhem/Fuzion game (mop-up duty)... Tigers and Circus Show was a good semi-pro game, with Show pulling away in the 2nd half... on to Week 2!
