Championship weekend is upon us in MDFFA's Spring league. Being part of the Victors as been pretty exciting and I think that we have a chance to contend. But let me put my bias aside.
Championship Bracket:
3pm: #3 Arsenal vs #6 Raiders
Arsenal had a great season... they are 7-1. Personally I say 6-2 with that double OT win over the Victors in which one of their guys even admitted that the ref blew that call in the endzone that would have sealed it. Regardless it was a great game. Some other notable games: They lost to the Blaze 24-0, Beat Compound 18-0, and perhaps more significantly beat the Raiders two weeks ago 19-12.
Raiders got into the playoffs...they played well against some lesser teams but 3 wins in a row helps your confidence. Key losses are shutouts vs the scorpions and Bengals... and perhaps as mentioned below the loss to the Arsenal a few weeks ago..
Prediction: Arsenal 18 - Raiders 7
Championship Bracket:
4:30pm: #4 Bengals vs #5 Victors
The Bengals have had an interesting season... They have 3 losses, one each to the Scorpions and Blaze... and some debacle versus the Brigade. Three of their six wins are impressive high scoring shut outs. I keep hearing these things about Packer players showing up and I can't help but wonder how it must be to have to bring in ringers for the playoffs. How does that affect chemistry?
This was the Victors first season in MDFFA... they have had an up and down season at first but capped off the regular season with a 3 game win streak. I think the key game for them was holding Scorpions to six points.
Prediction: Bengals 7 - Victors 13
Okay... I am tired now..
Consolation Bracket:
Red Knights beat Nightmares: 21 - 7
Trojans trounce the Bridgade: 24 - 12
Compound beats Trojans: 18 - 14
Stallions beat Red Knights: 7 - 0
Compound probably had one of the toughest schedules out of all of these teams in this bracket. They win the Consolation Bracket over the Stallions 14-6.
I will post again on Saturday night... lets see how Saturday goes...
I don't know what our rules are on rain but the forecast is pretty crappy tomorrow...

MDSSC - Light Contact League
I am going to try and introduce you to some of these leagues one at a time. Today it will be MDSSC; a light contact men's 8-on-8 league. MDSSC is played in Hunt Valley, MD. When I started playing in this league seven years ago there were six teams. Most of the other teams knew someone on the other team.. It was a very small private two-hand touch co-ed league. After one season, if I remember correctly, we turned to Triple Threat Flags and threw in a Winter Men's season (Played December-March). The inaugural Winter Men's season couldn't have started out better. We had a nice 6-10 inches of snow for the first couple of games. Now with four seasons (Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall) running...we have anywhere from 28-36 teams playing in three divisions. This league has grown by leaps and bounds and hopefully will continue to do so.
The summer season just kicked off on the 6th of this month. For my team, No Response, it was a tough 2-point loss (37-35), but overall a great day to kick things off. It is an 8-week season so there is a long way to go. Some early, but regular favorites, are the Victors, Revolution and Mayhem. These teams have been in the league for quite awhile. They have their strategies down so well, they might even tell you what the play is going to be run and dare you to stop it. Again, it is early and I will try to keep everything up to date and unbiased throughout the season.
That's all for now...#32
P.S. If you like the jerseys of the recent Spring Champs, The Victors, as shown on the MDSSC home page, or of the team they played, Revolution (in green), shoot me an email and I can give you more information about AGameTeam.

Maryland Flag Football
This is my first blog. That's me up there #32 getting a sack in the MDFFA Essex 9 man Contact League..also to the right.. yeah I am the kicker..so What?!? (Little more about that in a minute). I am going to try and gather as much information about the area leagues and try to bring that information to this page. My goal is to help grow all the leagues I come in contact with. In this economy with a lot of doubt in the future there is nothing better than going out on the weekends and forgetting about things for a couple hours. Especially when there is an opportunity to hit somebody...cleanly.
So for my first blog, I will introduce myself. My name is Will McGinnis and I play for No Response in the MDSSC league in Hunt Valley, MD. I also play for the Baltimore Victors in the MDFFA league and it is our first year. We made it to the Championship Playoff bracket on Sunday! We are a 5th seed play this Saturday against the #4 Baltimore Bengals. Notable Nationally ranked teams in this league are the #1 seeded Baltimore Scorpions (we lost to them in the regular season 6-0) and the #2 seeded Baltimore Blaze (we lost to them pretty bad 34-0...I will say as good as they are, we played them Week 1...our first week as a team together.).
I am excited to be in the Championship Tier Playoffs and think that we have a team that can contend for the title. It is at Essex Community College this weekend Saturday at 4:30 pm and Sunday at 9:00 am if you are interested.
One last note. I am also working with the AGame Team, the company that provides our uniforms. They provide Quality Flag Football jerseys, Regular Jerseys, Basketball jerseys...really everything, including shorts or regulation pants. If you have any questions or would like some more information Feel free to email me and I will help you out.
Until Next time.. #32
